Don’t drive when you’re tired (especially in New Jersey)

And this is why I say caffeine is the drug that probably saves the most lives in America.

theweekmagazine:

Driving while drowsy is a silent killer, apparently. One in every six fatal auto accidents has a drowsy driver involved, and some 41 percent of us admit to driving while we struggle to keep our eyes open. New Jersey is the only place thus far to forbid driving while sleep deprived (as defined by 24 straight hours without sleep). In the Garden State, any driver involved in a fatality who meets that criteria can be charged with vehicular homicide. Previous studies have shown that being awake for 24 hours can leave you with the equivalent of a 0.1 blood-alcohol level.

And this is why I say you should run away from a resident in a hospital who has been working for the past 24 hours…they’re essentially drunk and making sometimes life and death decisions for you. Just because that’s how it’s always been done doesn’t mean that’s how it should be done. Be careful out there people.
