NYC taxis vs. Healthcare

I’m riding home from a very nice evening out with friends and my cabbie is taking the longest route possible back to my apartment. It just made me think that he probably thinks I’m ignorant of the most efficient route home. He’s making money off my ignorance. It’s the same situation in healthcare. If you knew the proper issues and how much you should pay for them, you wouldn’t be spending way more than you should on healthcare.

This whole issue of out of control healthcare costs stems from consumers being ignorant of healthcare prices. When consumers become empowered, this is when healthcare will change.

When consumers are in the dark, they’re taken advantage of. This is an axiom of simple economics. Mandated transparent pricing of all aspects of healthcare costs should have been a central issue in healthcare reform. But of course there wasn’t a peep from the industry/government that this is an issue.
