James D. Griffioen: Lost Neighborhoods of Detroit
Detroit, New Orleans, Baltimore…I look at them and see opportunity. People still live there because they either can’t get out or because they passionately love their cities. These are the places we should be investing in. They’re a clean slate and ripe for inexpensive experimentation in how people live together, how healthcare can be delivered, and how independent individuals can create their own organic communities around common interests.
This is all size and infrastructure that was once important to how we lived and worked. The world has changed, and we’re moving on. It’s time to reclaim, design, and experiment.
