After completing a residency in pediatrics and one in preventive medicine at Johns Hopkins, I started a practice for my neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in September 2007. People would visit my website; see my Google calendar; choose a time and input their symptoms; my iphone would alert me; I would make a house call; they'd pay me via Paypal; and we'd follow up by email, IM, videochat, or in person.

Fast Company calls me The Doctor of the Future. I've got a design and consulting firm called The Future Well. Read more about me here.

The Yaz logo looks like it’s birth control for 80s skateboard movies.

When I was working with Ralph Nader at Public Citizen, I wrote a petition to the FDA to ban this, and other contraceptives in this same family. They have double the risk of death from blood clots and are simply a marketing gimmick that have no added benefit over earlier versions of oral contraceptives.
Think about that one…a young woman dies because a drug company thinks a snazzy new logo will sell more pills.
And that same drug company refuses to do head to head studies comparing the effectiveness of this “new drug” vs. the “old drug.” And, of course, the FDA doesn’t force drug companies to prove that a new drug is better than an old drug in order for it to be sold to the public as a new and improved marketing gimmick.
