After completing a residency in pediatrics and one in preventive medicine at Johns Hopkins, I started a practice for my neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in September 2007. People would visit my website; see my Google calendar; choose a time and input their symptoms; my iphone would alert me; I would make a house call; they'd pay me via Paypal; and we'd follow up by email, IM, videochat, or in person.

Fast Company calls me The Doctor of the Future. I've got a design and consulting firm called The Future Well. Read more about me here.

  • B Corporation

I met Andrew Kassoy, a co-founder of B Corporation for breakfast in Soho this morning. They’re doing really good things:

    What are B Corporations?

B Corporations are a new type of corporation which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.  B Corporations are unlike traditional responsible businesses because they:

    • Meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards.
    • Institutionalize stakeholder interests.
    • Build collective voice through the power of a unifying brand.

It’s sort of like LEED Certification but for companies. For any of you small business owners out there, I highly recommend pursuing certification. We, as a culture, are getting more and more socially conscious and looking for brands and companies that act responsibly and care about social and financial justice. This is one solid step toward taking a stand.
